  • Tatiana Philiptchenko is a Montreal-based photographer and journalist. She has covered stories of conflict and culture in countries such as Egypt, Guatemala, Vietnam and Mauritania, and has supplied images for National Geographic, Time, Newsweek, Elle and L’Actualité. A co-creator of the Peace Media Coop, Tatiana works to develop media projects that serve the communities she covers.

  • Photojournalist Tatiana Philiptchenko has given western audiences a rare insight into the revolutionary role of women through her photography project, Egyptian Women of the Revolution. Tatiana began the endeavour to combat false stereotypes of the Arab world and Egyptian women in particular.

“A lot of the stories in the western world portray women in the Middle East as victims,” she explains. “I don’t think that is right. When you go to Egypt, you realize how strong women are. The fact that a woman wears a headscarf or a veil – that doesn’t mean anything.”

By revealing a glimpse into the lives of these women, Tatiana is working to lower intercultural barriers and discourage people from making superficial judgements, and even facilitate connections between women’s groups in the West and the Arab world.
